Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh on Monday said the political reform process in Jordan is moving in the right direction, but cited the country's economic hardships and pressure placed by the regional unrest.

At a meeting with member of the politburo of the Communist Party of China Wang Gang, Tarawneh highlighted Jordan's comprehensive reform efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah.

The premier said the government would continue to support the private sector, calling on it to activate its role in improving the trade balance between Jordan and China.

Tarawneh also noted that the Kingdom's geographical destination enables it to attract investment and serve as a gateway to the region's markets.

"We are willing to overcome obstacles hindering Chinese investments in Jordan," he added.

Discussions also covered the situation in the Middle East.

The prime minister said Jordan is observing the situation in Syria and other Arab countries with "concern", citing the Kingdom's stance which calls for resolving conflicts peacefully.

"Jordan is looking forward to China's role in maintaining security and stability in the Middle East," Tarawneh highlighted.

The Chinese official, who is also vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, noted that China supports special UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan's mission to end the crisis in Syria.

He also said diplomatic ties between Jordan and China, which were established 35 years ago, are developing "enormously".

He indicated that the trade and economic relations between the two countries are "distinguished", pointing out that the trade volume increased tenfold between 2001 and 2010.

He underlined the importance of exchange visits between officials from the two countries to boost bilateral ties and cultural cooperation.

Wang provided Jordan with a symbolic gift comprising 100 computers, 50 printers and 50 scanners in appreciation of its relations with the Kingdom.
