His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met with member of the politburo of the Communist Party of China Wang Gang and underlined Jordan's commitment to enhancing cooperation with China.

He called for enhancing Chinese participation in the Kingdom's vital development plans, particularly in the fields of transport, water and energy, a Royal Court statement said.

Wang, who is also vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, highlighted his country's interest in improving economic cooperation with Jordan and contributing to infrastructure projects.

The Chinese official said he would urge authorities in his country and private sector leaders to consider taking part in the Kingdom's projects.

The trade volume between Jordan and China has increased tenfold between the years 2001 and 2010.

Lower House Speaker Abdul Karim Dughmi also met with the Chinese politician and highlighted Jordan's comprehensive reform drive, according to Petra.

Dughmi said the political "unrest" in the region is affecting Jordan, which is accommodating large numbers of Syrians, adding that it also hosted huge numbers of Iraqis during the US-led invasion of Iraq, most of whom are still living in the Kingdom.

The Chinese official also met with acting Senate President Abdur-Ra'uf S. Rawabdeh and discussed bilateral ties and China's political role in the region, Petra reported.
