Jordan's King Made Speech at Peking University

    His Majesty King Abdullah II said that China and the Arab World are central to the resolution of the most important 21st Century issues including stability of the world economy, global peace and security and the future of intercultural understanding and cooperation.

    In remarks at Peking University, His Majesty said that other challenges include safeguarding our people from the violence of war and the threat of terrorism, growing our economies and creating new prosperity, accessing and increasing knowledge and enjoying its benefits, building our societies and offering hope to our young people.

    "No partnership is more important or multi-dimensional than that between Chin and the Arab World," the King added.

    He said our region stands at the nexus of continents, noting stability, peace and progress remain under assault by a legacy of poverty and conflict. "Meeting these challenges in out region can help advance important global interests, including those of China," the King said.

    He added that China can play an important role in supporting the peace process, both as a world power and a respected and trusted Asian neighbor.

    On the development process, His Majesty said that China is already playing an important role, as model, supporter, and partner.

    In welcoming remarks, President of Peking University Xu Zhihong said King Abdullah's speech gains special importance as it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jordan and China.

    Zhihong hailed efforts exerted by His Majesty to achieve just and comprehensive peace ad well as stability in the Middle East. He also praised the King's efforts to enhance civil freedoms through legislation that guarantees economic development, accountability, transparency and achieving equality for women.

    The event was attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Raya Bint Al Hussein, Director of the King's Office Bassem Awadallah, Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah Al Khatib, ministers of education and higher education, planning and international cooperation, industry and trade, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a number of senior military officials.
