2007-10-26 00:00

Gong Xiaosheng, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan and Princess Basma, the aunt of King Abdullah  jointly inaugurated Suzhou Embroidery Masterpieces Exhibition which was held in Royal Culture Center in the evening of October 24. Jordan royal court chairman, culture minister, head of diplomatic missions to Jordan as well as other friends of China attended the opening ceremony.

Ambassador Gong accompanied Princess Basma to enjoy these beautiful exhibits and Princess Basma spoke highly of Chinese "magical" embroidery craftsmanship. One embroidery expert did the double-sided embroidery on the scene and she was surrounded by visitors who were keen to see how to stitch with a silk thread as thin as a hair and a two-centimeter-long needle.

There were 60 works presented in the exhibition hall, which fall into different categories and styles, including single-sided, double-sided, flat, crisscross and cut silk. These traditional embroidery works demonstrate the delicacy and elegance of Suzhou embroidery. Among all the exhibits, there is one made according to a photo of Jordan's King Abdullah and Queen Rania. This piece drew special attention from the visitors.
