The Chinese government has presented Jordan's National Committee for De-mining and Rehabilitation (NCDR) with mine-clearance equipment, including 30 mine detectors and 30 de-mining personal protective equipment (PPE) outfits on September 6.

Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Gong Xiaosheng handed over the Chinese donation to the NCDR during a special ceremony. As part of its contribution to the Kingdom's de-mining efforts, the People's Republic of China also hosted 15 Jordanian de-miners for six weeks to train them in all aspects of mine-clearance, according to a NCDR statement.

During the ceremony, NCDR Board Chairman HRH Prince Mired thanked China for its generous donation and assistance to the Kingdom's de-mining programmes, the statement said.

Addressing a Chinese delegation headed by the ambassador, the Prince expressed his deep appreciation to the government and people of China for their support and stressed that without the assistance and cooperation of international friends such as China, Jordan would not have achieved so many successes in its de-mining projects to date.

NCDR National Director Mohammad Breikat also expressed his gratitude to China for the training and equipment, which will be utilised for ongoing de-mining projects in the country. He pointed out that this international exchange of expertise and collaboration is essential to help Jordan overcome the challenges it faces in clearing its soil of all landmines, which remain a threat to men, women and children.
