Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with King Abdullah II of Jordan
2004-08-04 00:00

On July 30, 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met with King Abdullah II of Jordan at Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

Wen Jiabao made positive comments on China-Jordan relations. He said that China and Jordan are both developing countries and share identical views and positions in many important issues, and both countries earnestly aspire for enhancement of friendship and deepening of the mutually beneficial cooperation. Despite the constant changes in international situations, China-Jordan relations have always been progressing forward steadily. China is satisfied with the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Wen Jiabao pointed out that in recent years, economic and trade relations between China and Jordan have maintained good development momentum. The bilateral trade volume is growing year on year, construction and investment projects undertaken by China-invested enterprises have promoted the economic development of Jordan, and cooperation between the two countries has gradually expanded from the traditional areas of home appliances, textiles, agriculture and labor to high and new technology industries, such as communications and information industries. Since there remain a lot of potentials to be tapped in China-Jordan cooperation in economy and trade, to bring this cooperation to a higher level, the two governments need to constantly explore new areas of cooperation, create conditions for the exchanges and cooperation between enterprises of the two countries and establish an effective mechanism to address problems popped up during the process of economic and trade cooperation in a timely manner. So long as the two sides adopt the spirit of reciprocity, mutual benefit, activeness and practicality in the process of cooperation, economic and trade relations between China and Jordan will surely witness more rapid and greater development.

Abdullah indicated what Premier Wen had said was very important, to which he fully agreed. He said that Jordan-China relations are solidly based and becoming better and better. Cooperation between the two sides in political, economic, cultural and other fields has made considerable headway. He held that there are still great potentials for economic and trade cooperation between the two sides, expressing the hope that the two governments can establish faster and more convenient channels for communication and coordination so as to jointly promote the further development of the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
